Hello! My name is Christine Ansell. I’ve been working on video games for over 7 years. I started out in esports, running casual and League tournaments. I became more involved in the wider community as a Community Manager.

I’m experienced designing community and social content calendars, creating static and video assets, writing announcements, running competitive tournaments, and interacting with local and global teams.

 Community

For many players, the social interactions and community is as important as the gameplay. Ensuring that the player has an amazing experience and builds connects with each other and the game company is a core responsibility for the Community Manager. From community platforms like Discord and forums, to social sites or streaming platforms, each community has their own unique needs. When entering an already established community or starting one from scratch, I always consider the types of users and what they’re looking to get from that platform. When creating my content calendar, I gear posts or articles for different platforms. While some content will always be posted on most platforms, each has their own ‘voice’ shaped by the community that calls it home. For some games, that meant Discord was the casual hangout between players and developers, Twitter focused on fun memes, Facebook was the go-to location for tips and tricks videos and the forums was everyone’s favorite location for technical support.

 Social Media

Social media is an evolving platform, with various types of content performing differently depending on the media. For Command & Conquer: Rivals, I wasn’t afraid to try new things. Polls and tips and tricks videos often made their way to Facebook, while Twitter and Instagram were home to fan art and fun gifs (because who doesn’t love a Unicorn explosion!). I analyzed how posts were performing on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, to ensure that I was hitting the right notes for each platform. If something continuously fell flat, it would be removed (at least temporarily) to make room for a new post.

News Articles

New features and events. Upcoming sales. Patch notes. In-game messages. Writing copy, working with HTML and CSS, designing assets, or creating a fully designed post, I have experience with both in and out of game articles. I have even worked directly with the development team to improve the in-game message UI for a mobile game. Although not proficient, I work with the Content Lead to determine how articles are performing, to decide if any changes in length or format are needed.

Tournaments and Esports

I started in video games working with tournaments and esports. I designed, moderated, and analyzed casual and league tournaments, to ensure that they were hitting our KPIs. With the introduction of new tournament formats geared towards casual and clan players, I was able to increase tournament participation year-over-year. I also helped organize international live esports events.

Content Creators & Volunteer Moderators

I’ve coordinated with multiple player groups. With our content creators, I highlighted a new unit video, providing the creators with information and access to a test build. The videos were reviewed internally before inclusion in a news article and in-game message. In addition, I worked with content creators to design a script for tutorial videos to be showcased on the website.

I also have experience creating and running player council groups, to provide the development teams with important player feedback before an update or new content goes live. Currently, I selected and am in charge of volunteer moderators. These volunteers not only help moderate Discord and the forums, they assist with contests and announcements.
